10 Ways To Get The Most Out of a Land-based Slot Machine

The majority of gamblers know that playing slot machines is a losers battle. I mean – so is Roulette, Video Poker, Blackjack etc – the house always has an advantage. But there is a big difference in controlling your destiny by choosing hit or stand, and simply hitting a “spin” button over and over again and hoping the computer feels generous that day.

However when you go into a land based casino, you’re immediately hit with slot machine upon slot machine. And if the casino is busy you might not even be able to get a spot at the tables or be on a waiting list for poker.

So should you play the slots at the casino?

However you should go with a plan. Don’t just throw in $20, jam the max bet button and then walk away frustrated. Instead realize that slot machines are meant to be purely for entertainment.

Here are some tips to get the best out of a land based slot machine:

#1: Get a Rewards Card

It depends on the casino however the majority of them will offer rewards programs. In Las Vegas for example the two most popular rewards programs are M Life and Total Rewards. So get a rewards card and put that in the slot machine before you play. Then – even if you lose – you’re gaining rewards points which you can put towards free meals or free rooms or upgrades to your existing room etc. This makes the losses hurt a little bit less.

#2: Don’t Play the First Slot You See

Some people simple walk into a casino and slot down at any slot machine. Don’t do that. Instead take some time to look around. Are you a fan of the Walking Dead? Then you may have more fun at a Walking Dead slot machine than some random slot machine featuring dragons. It’s meant to be entertainment remember – focus more on fun.

#3: Play Slow and Drink Free

I see so many people mashing the button as fast as they can – don’t do that.

If you’re at a casino that gives out free drinks like any casino in Vegas then all the better – spend some time relaxing at the machine, slowly spin each time and drink up.

This is where slot machines can come in real handy – if you want to drink. Because then you get free drinks AND entertainment out of it. I mean in Vegas you can either get a baileys and coffee with whipped cream for $10, or get the same drink while slowly playing $5 at a slot machine.

#4: Play Multiple Line Penny Slots:

This isn’t for everyone – but for the majority of players it’s what I’d recommend.

Look for slot machines where you can bet as low as a penny. And then slots that have multiple lines all the way up to 50. Then bet all of them.

This way you’re betting a decent amount of $0.50 per spin – but with all of the lines you’re going to be getting money back. You’re still losing – but trust me, winning small amounts every spin or two is a lot more exciting than playing some 3 reel classic slot where you go 20 spins without a win.

#5: Max Bet:

Playing with maximum bets is good and it doesn’t have to be the dollar amount. If a slot machine allows you to pay 1-3 coins then always go with 3. The reason is that the jackpots – the higher ones – are only unlocked via max betting usually. Part of the fun and allure of slots is “life changing money” and so you want to give yourself the opportunity to get that.

#6: Play Bonus Game Slots:

One of my particular favourite slot machines is the Wheel of Fortune slot you can find in many casinos in Vegas. I always look for slots like that – ones that have an in-depth bonus game. Because then you generally get to sit back, sip on the free drinks and enjoy this extra element where everything is in your favour.

#7:Understand the Payouts:

It’s amazing how many people sit down at a slot machine and play it with no idea how to win or lose. Part of the fun of slots is seeing how close you came to a win. When you sit down at a slot take some time to understand the payouts and how they work and how you can win big.

#8: Set some Rules

Don’t just keep feeding a machine over and over. Set some rules. For example you’ll sit down with $20 and leave when you’re either at $10 or $30. Or you leave when you hit a big win. Or you martingale it – bet 1 coin the first spin, and if you don’t win bet the 2nd coin and then the 3rd coin and so on.

Basically don’t just mindlessly throw money at a slot.

#9: Challenge a Friend

This is a favourite of mine – challenge a friend. You both put $20 into the same slot machine and then you both spin at the exact same time and see who can run their money up faster or who can stay alive the longest etc.

#10: Remember – It’s Entertainment

I get asked so many questions about how to win at slots etc, how to maximize profit. Forget all of that – slots are there for your entertainment.

I play the table games a lot in Vegas but one of the funnest times I’ve had was with the slot machines. I put in $20 and I managed to run it all the way up to $180 and I’d keep going from slot to slot just enjoying the fact that my money was lasting me this long. I wasn’t looking for profitability I was just having fun keeping a balance going knowing how tilted against me they are.

You won’t win at slots. But that doesn’t mean you can have some fun with it.

Our Slot Themes Explained

When you’re searching for a slot machine here at SlotsBuddy.com, you get the option of choosing what type of “Theme” you want in a slot machine.

I’m going to break down the themes we currently list, and provide some examples of slots that fit that theme:

Adult Slots: You won’t find many adult slots online but there are a few that are completely R rated and then a few others that are borderline. Filter by this and you’ll find all of the adult slots such as the Playboy slot. And hey they don’t call it a one-armed bandit for nothing!

Animal Slots: There are a lot of animal themed slots out there. Fishing is popular with slots like Fishing with Buddies and Reel Strike. Dogs and cats also with Puppy Love, Kitty Cash and Puppy Pay Day. If you’re an animal lover then this is the filter for you as you’ll be able to see all of the animal themed slots available to play online.
